Personalising Your Outdoor Wedding Decorations

If you’re planning to have an outdoor wedding, chances are you’re having to organise almost everything yourselves. This can be stressful, time consuming and expensive, but there are plenty of upsides to tying the knot in the great outdoors. Being outside gives you a blank canvas that you can use to express yourself, and a great way to do that is through your choice of decorations. Here’s a bunch of great ideas for personalising your outdoor wedding venue that are fun, beautiful and hopefully won’t break the bank!

Fun With Flowers

There are a load of options for displaying flowers around your outdoor wedding venue. One beautiful solution is to get some old wine bottles and spray-paint them rose gold. The elegant shape and the beautiful colour will help provide an elegant, classy look to the surroundings. For a more rustic feel you could use an old watering can or a pig trough planter. Hanging old light bulbs with flowers in them from trees adds a unique touch to any ceremony – or you could get hold of a load of old, colourful umbrellas and hang them upside down from the trees.

Make It Unique

Hand-painted signs on different coloured bits of wood are a great way to help people find their way around the venue. Little wooden coins that have your vows written on them in sequence can be hung on the chairs going down the aisle so that the bride sees them as she approaches the groom, and origami decorations dotted about or held in some kind of net will further personalise the whole experience for you. A fruit centrepiece that matches the colour scheme of the wedding will help bring the venue to life – apples are a good choice, as are strawberries (as red is a complimentary colour to green).

Lighting Up Your Special Day

To light the venue at night you could get paper cups, wrap them in colourful paper, cut holes in the bottom and attach them to a string of fairy lights. Bottle cap candles in hanging jars add a sense of mystery and magic, and getting everyone to release Chinese lanterns at a special point in the night will create a spectacular moment that you will never forget.

Just For Fun

If you’re having a beach wedding then you could get your guests to write messages in bottles to throw out to sea – green or blue bottles with nice paper and pretty ribbons will create a great effect. You could also consider hiring someone to do a sand-castle sculpture. Finally, for any fun photography, you could use chalkboard speech bubbles and props like cut-out glasses, moustaches and hats that can be held up to give your guests something to play around with – and to create a lot of very memorable photos!

You may want to try some of the ideas listed above, but the real purpose of them is to get the creative juices flowing to help you come up with something that no-one else has done, personal to you. Keep an eye out for things that catch your eye in day to day life, be it a certain shape of mug, a book-stand or some rusty old thing from the garden, and think about how you could incorporate the ideas those objects spark off into your wedding decorations. Making decorations from scratch is also very satisfying, and will give you a welcome break from booking musicians and marquees to relax with your husband or wife to be. Just be creative and open-minded and have fun! Remember: it’s your wedding day, so whatever you say goes, no matter how weird, wacky and wonderful.
